Avonworth Wins Viewers Choice in First Pittsburgh Area Video Contest

The team from Avonworth Middle School won the Viewers Choice and Best Manufacturing Message awards in first Dream It. Do It. PA student video contest in the Pittsburgh area.

The Pittsburgh student video contest was produced by the Catalyst Connection – a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping small manufacturers in southwestern Pennsylvania improve their competitive performance.

More than 96,000 votes were cast at DreamItDoItPA.com for the Viewers Choice Award over more than four days. The ten-team contest – titled Explore the New Manufacturing – used the format of the Dream It. Do It. PA Lehigh Valley contest, titled What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? The contest’s award ceremony was held Thursday at the Heinz Field Club East Lounge.

The middle school teams were provided with video equipment and training and matched with manufacturing companies and teacher coaches. The teams create short video profiles of their companies and the career opportunities they offer. The team from Avonworth Middle School in the Pittsburgh suburbs profiled ARDEX Engineered Cements in Aliquippa, Pa.

Dream It. Do It. PA is a partnership directed by the Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC) in Allentown, Pa., and is dedicated to changing perceptions and attitudes in the Keystone State about advanced manufacturing careers. Dream It. Do It. PA started in 2013 as an effort called Lehigh Valley Skill Up to raise awareness in the Lehigh Valley area. The popularity of the partnership’s flagship student video contests and its rights to the national Dream It. Do It. brand for Pennsylvania have enabled it to expand its reach throughout the commonwealth.
